Grocery Shop Like A Trainer - Made Fit TV - Ep 51

June 2nd, 2009 | | Email This Post Email This Post |

“Eating Healthy” is such a broad term.  To one person, this could mean eating your daily recommended fruits and vegetables.  Where to someone else, it could mean eat anything as long as it’s not fast food.

Whatever you consider it, there are some food selections that should be a staple in your daily nutrition plan.  These could be eggs, oats, vegetables, lean meats, and olive oil, to name a few.

But if you’re a little stumped on what to keep in your house to keep you out of the drive-thru, check out what I eat!  In this week’s Made Fit TV episode, I let you raid my refrigerator, freezer, and pantry to get an idea of some food choices that work for me - and may work for you.

Where did you get the rice pasta?
  • I found it at Kroger in the health food section, but they have it at any grocery store if they have a health food section, or even in the asian food section.

I like everything! One comment, reduced fat PB is not really worth it, because they load up the carbs so the calories are barely reduced. You'd be better off with the full fat, or with my favorite, PB2 powdered peanut butter! It's the best! only 53 calories
  • I'm 4'11" - I think I stopped growing when I was in the 4th grade! LOL!

Those rice cakes truly are DELISH!! The cheddar, white cheddar, and popcorn flavors are a healthier alternative to the average "snack" food. Plus, they're not as high on the glycemic index, making them a little slower to digest and hold you over for longer. I hope you picked up some helpful ways to better your nutrition while still keeping it tasty!

I love how short you are compaired to your freezer!!! Its adorable!!! And I have been watching these episodes on and off for a few months now and it really does help me out!! When I go shopping tomorrow, im definately gonna try a few new things, like the cheddar rice cakes! Thanks for the show. Its wonderful and very entertaining!!!
  • Great information Jenny. Your pantry and fridge looks just like mine. Folks need to realize that we trainers like to eat, but we just CHOSE to eat healthy. Thanks for the information.

PS when is Cris going to jump in and make an appearance?
  • Yes, Juan, there's no such thing as NOT eating - it's about making the right choices to have your food work in your favor. As trainers, I think allowing people to see what we eat allows others to take some pressure off and promotes better eating.
  • Jenny introduced me to the canned fruit thing and I sort of ran with it. I've gotten to the point where I understand what sugar does to your body so when I look at fruit, I look at it as a dessert. So, when I do eat it, I feel like I'm doing something slightly bad or getting away with something...when in reality I'm actually eating quite healthy. Things like candy and donuts don't even cross my mind anymore.

My tip. Learn to love the lean stuff. Some of it can be an acquired taste but once you get used to it, it's hard to go back...especially when you find out how counter-productive it is to looking and feeling healthy.
  • I'm also becoming more open to some canned vegetable selections. Can't wait to make my heart of palm salad!

I see that Kroger apple cider! That stuff was crack to me during the dieting :-) Jerkey is also a lifesaver!
  • Yes! Jerky may be high in sodium, but it is one of my favorites to keep with me while on the road. Protein right at your finger tips - no prep required : )
