Is Your Body Type Working Against You? - Made Fit TV - Ep. 66

September 29th, 2009 | | Email This Post Email This Post |

People seem to always think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence when referring to their own bodies.  One of the phrases I hear a lot from people is “I’m supposed to be this weight, but I’m that weight.”  Well, how do you know for sure?  Where are these “rules.”

Physicians use a number called BMI (body mass index) to determine whether people are a healthy weight, or at risk for weight-related diseases.  This is the ratio of your height to weight.  But not all bodies are created equal - and yours could be working against you if you don’t know how to work with it

Ever see those super-skinny people who eat fast-food five days a week, hit the gym maybe once a week if they’re lucky, and look amazing?  In this weeks episode of Made Fit TV, I give you some insight into the different body types and why certain body types lose weight, gain fat, gain muscle, or stay the same more than others.  It’s sometimes not just about the numbers - sometimes genetics is to blame.

ok,now I know I have a Ectomorph body and to gain weight I should lift heavier and eat more,but.... how much is more, how do I find out that information depending on my current weight and height.
  • It really does not work that cut and dry... some people have slower metabolisms, some faster. It's best to maybe see your physician and get your blood drawn to check all of your levels to rule anything like that out. Then you can experiment with your nutrition and workout plan.. Some people just don't work out hard enough, some just don't eat clean enough, and some eat too little, and some train too much. It can be frustrating, but it involves trial and error to see how your body responds. Don't give up, just keep living a healthy lifestyle and your body will find the best YOU you are supposed to be based on your lifestyle : )

Thanks for sharing! Now I know why I didn't gain a pound even after eating chicken patties and pizza for a whole semester ;). My family was even saying that it looked like I had lost weight, but I hadn't been working out at all.
  • Yep, consider yourself the envy of MANY people! ; )

that was great . it was a eyeopener . now i know why i am not losing my weight as i think it should. i am an endomorph as i understand from the podcast and i already have a underactive thyroid which will further reduce my metabolism.i not keeping an eye on diet department .
now i understand that exercising now and then is not going to work for me . i will have to be consistent with both cardio and weight training .
jenny thank you for this much needed wake up call . u are always an insipre to me.
  • It's good to know that you're figuring out what's going on with your body, Milie. Having an underactive thyroid can be very hard to overcome when pursuing a health and fitness program. Just eat right for better energy and set small goals for each day. You can do it!

Jenny, This is just the info I have been looking for! I will cut down on the cardio and lift more weight. Thank you so much.
  • Hi Kathy! So great to hear that this episode provided you with some insight. You're pretty lean and I know how well you eat. So, maybe sticking to more weights and lowering your cardio a tad may keep you from losing weight. Hope all is well! XO PS- say hi to Doreen for me : )
