5 Ways to Firm Stomach & Thighs - Made Fit TV - Ep. 71

November 10th, 2009 | | Email This Post Email This Post |

I answer many viewer and client questions and comments through Made Fit TV, Facebook, Twitter, and many other video websites.  I love giving advice and helping people not just reach their health and fitness goals, but help them find the right path to getting there.

The most popular question I receive that people want to know is “How can I get rid of my flabby stomach, thighs, and butt?”  It’s such a brief question with a not-so-brief answer.  Now, just because the answer isn’t brief doesn’t mean it isn’t simple.

In this week’s episode of Made Fit TV, I answer the question of how to firm up your trouble areas with 5 tips.  These tips are the blueprint of living a healthy and fit lifestyle - minus the flab!  In addition, see if you can live up to the challenge that I pose for you at the end of the video.  I know you can do it… but, do you?

I use SparkPeople.com too. It's a very useful website for keeping track of what I eat with a daily feedback of nutrients.
  • Ah, yes, I have some clients of mine who use Spark People or the Daily Plate - good stuff! I prefer to log on my own in a journal because I'm impatient : )

    Hey Jenny,
Great video! I wonder,do you believe in nutrient timing? I mean,do you feel carbs are best saved for after a work out and in the morning? Or do you like to hit the macros you mentioned at each meal?
  • Thanks, Tammy. I recommend eating carbs both before and after. Before, they are used for energy. After, they are important for muscle recovery and repair. Protein can be eaten mostly after. But, in general, it's good to hit up all of the macros at every meal, unless you're trying to manipulate for competition or performance purposes.

Thanks for the response Jenny! I always feel best when I eat a protein carb and aft at each meal! I appreciate you clearing that up!
I do have another question. I know you have mentioned most woman to best around 12-1500 calories daily. Is that enough to gain some muscle while losing some fat? Do you have to eat over maintenance to put on muscle?? A bit confused? Thanks!
  • Your body can have a deficit of about 200-300 calories per day without it affecting muscle growth. It may differ from person to person. But a good way to judge is by tracking what you're eating in calories AND in macronutrients. You could be eating the amount of calories you should, but if you're ratio of protein/carbs/fat is 20/60/20, you may look softer than if you had a more balanced ratio of protein like 40/40/20. So, focus on both the 1,200-1,500 rage in calories and getting in the right amount of protein for you. It could change if you find that doesn't work for you, so play around with it : )
  • These are such good tips! I've kind of taken the log thing one step farther and made a blog out of it. I'm trying to blog once a day and show photos of everything I eat and keep track of my workouts and my progress. Thanks for all your awesome videos :)
  • Wow, that sounds outstanding, Christine! That is such a great idea for people who are serious about their results. Allowing others to see your progress will motivate them, causing a domino effect of support : ) Keep it up!

I use SparkPeople.com to log my nutrition, workouts, and weigh-ins. It's a free, easy to use, web-based program. These tips are things we all know, but need someone like you to cut through the BS and remind us of what we need to be doing...and thanks for that, Jenny! :)
  • Yes, many friends of Made Fit TV use that site for tracking and accountability, along with some of my clients. I appreciate you watching and for your support of my videos. It's good to know I'm getting through to people in a positive way : )
