Pull ups are a challenging exercise that many people wish to master.  But what’s the draw?  Why so popular?

The pull up is one of the best body-weight movements when performed correctly because it works not only your upper back, but your rear shoulders, biceps, chest, and core.  Plus, it looks pretty awesome when you can bust them out on a whim!

In this week’s episode of Made Fit TV, I show you first how to perform a pull up with proper form.  Then I provide you with creative methods on how you can gain your strength in a pull up with assistance, all the way up to an unassisted pull up!

this exxcercise the pull up may not be appropriate for everyone/

  • I totally agree, and that's why I gave the options of the assisted pull up with the resistance band or with the chair. Great for any fitness level! The pull up is something, if people want to achieve, they need to spend time working up to.

  • Great video Jenny. I have sent this to a few trainers whom teaches resistance band classes. I hope this will make the use of resistance band and the ironman bar more popular with their users.

  • I had seen it and thought it was a great tip to share! Thanks for sending it off to your friends!

    Happy Thanksgiving Jenny!!!

  • Happy Thanksgiving to you, Tracey!!

  • Hi Jenny, thanks for the tips about training for pull-ups. I cannot do one real pull-up right now and it is one of my fitness goals to be able to do a few. I think for a woman being able to do pull ups is quite impressive.

But I wonder why women cannot perform such calisthenics exercises as good as men: their body weight to lift is lighter than men's body weight, so why such a big difference between men and women doing pull-ups or push-ups?

  • I'm glad you liked the video and hope it comes in handy. Men are just naturally and genetically stronger than women due to their natural physical makeup and hormones. But, after practice and consistency with calisthenics training, women can benefit from our smaller frames in performing the movements.
